Third amongst 10 other countries, ranked Greece with the cleanest beaches for swimming. A list released recently by Eurostat with data on the share of coastal bathing sites in Europe with “excelent” water quality suggests that Greece recorded a slight drop in its percentage from 97.1 percent in 2020 to 95.8 percent in 2021, indicating that around 24 out of 25 Greek beaches have excelent water quality for swimming. Croatia ranked first with 99.2 percent while Malta ranked second with 96.6 percent. The indicator assessment is based on microbiological parameters compiled by the European Environment Agency (EEA) and shows how well environmental protection measures are implemented in Europe. Other countries in the Top 10 list are Slovenia (4th), Belgium (7th), and Bulgaria (10th).
